Once upon a time, there were two cities named Sodom and Gomorrah. These cities were filled with lots of people, but they were not very nice. Everyone there forgot to be kind, and that made things sad. The air in the cities didn't smell sweet, it smelled sour instead.
In Sodom, people would shout and push, they never shared their toys. In Gomorrah, they didn’t help each other; they made lots of noise. The children would cry, 'Why can't we play?' But their grown-ups were busy, so they turned away.
One day, a traveler came to town. He wore a big hat and a warm frown. He looked at the cities with a heavy heart. 'Why is everyone tearing apart?','
The traveler called all the townsfolk near. 'You must listen closely, lend me your ear! Kindness can bloom like flowers in spring! When we are nice, our hearts start to sing.'
Some people listened, but many did not. Some laughed at the traveler, said he was a blot. 'We like our bad ways, so let's keep them here! But the traveler was brave and pushed through his fear.
As the sun set low, the traveler sighed. 'I will show you the joy when kindness is tried.' He helped a girl with a tear on her face; he picked her up, and they danced all over the place.
People gathered around to see what was right. They clapped and they laughed, they filled up with light. But the men of Sodom turned red with anger. They didn’t like kindness, it was a big danger!
Suddenly, a loud voice boomed from the sky. 'These cities are wicked! This I can’t let fly!' Flames came to cleanse, with a bright golden glow. It took away the bad, and the hearts learned to grow.
From the ashes of the cities that once stood so tall, came blooms of kindness, embracing them all. Now the tale of Sodom and Gomorrah is known, that kindness is the seed from which love is grown.
So remember this story when you go home today. Be kind and be caring in every way. For when hearts are warm and the joy starts to flow, kindness will flourish like a bright golden glow!
