Once upon a time, there was a statue called the Happy Prince. He stood tall on a high tower, shining bright and golden. The Happy Prince had beautiful blue eyes and a kind smile. He could see all the people in the city below him.

The city was big and busy, but many people were poor and sad. They didn’t have enough food or warm clothes. The Happy Prince wanted to help. He wished he could get down and share his riches with them.

One night, a little swallow flew by. He was tired and looking for a place to sleep. The Happy Prince called out to the swallow. "Please help me! I want to give my jewels to those in need!"

The swallow wanted to help. He took a beautiful ruby from the Happy Prince's sword. He flew to a small, cold house where a mother and her boy were hungry. The boy smiled when he got the ruby!

The next night, the swallow returned. The Happy Prince had more jewels. This time, he gave his sparkling sapphire. The swallow flew to a girl selling matches. She was cold and alone. The sapphire made her smile too!

Each night, the Happy Prince gave away his riches. He gave away all his gold and gems. The people in the city started to feel happy again. They had food, warm clothes, and love.

But one day, the Happy Prince became sad. He had given away all his beauty. The swallow saw this and decided to stay. He loved the prince and wanted to help him feel better.
