Once upon a time, there was a soft rabbit named Velveteen. He sat on a shelf in a child's room. His fur was soft as velvet and his eyes sparkled like stars.

The little boy loved Velveteen very much. They played together every day. Velveteen wished he could be real, just like the boy's other friends.
