Once upon a time, a sweet gingerbread man was made. He was brown and warm, with icing on his head. The old woman smiled, but he said, 'I can run! I can run! Catch me if you can!' So off he went, racing through the sunny land.
He ran past the old woman, who shouted, 'Come back, dear! You can’t run forever; I baked you with cheer!' But the gingerbread man laughed, 'I’m too fast for you! I’ll dash to the farm and say goodbye too!'
The gingerbread man ran fast and so bold, as he zipped past the farmer, who was stout and old. 'Stop that gingerbread! He’s running away!' But he winked with a grin and yelled, 'Baking's for play!'
Hopping through meadows, quick as can be, he dodged a big cow and climbed a tall tree. 'Moo, moo,' said the cow, 'I will give it a try!' But the gingerbread man shouted, 'You’re far too shy!'
Next, he spotted a horse with a big shiny mane. 'Come and catch me! You’ll find it’s a game!' But the gingerbread man just giggled with glee, as he danced around legs of the buzzing bee.
He ran through the woods with all of his might, 'I’m the gingerbread man! I’m a tasty delight!' But there came a sly fox with a chuckle so sly, 'Would you like a ride? Come on, don’t be shy.'
The gingerbread man thought, 'He looks smart and keen. Maybe this fox knows a shortcut between!' So he hopped on the back with a skip and a twirl, while the fox ran fast through the great big world.
They zipped through the forest, and the gingerbread grinned. But the fox had a plan, he knew how to win. With a flick of his tail, and a leap of great skill, the gingerbread man soon had to run faster still!
'Oh no!' cried the man, 'I won't be a snack! I'm clever and quick; I'm not going back!' With a wink and a smile, he dashed far away, leaving the sly fox to think of a new game.
From that day on, the gingerbread man learned, with wit and with charm, the tables can turn. So if ever you run and hear footsteps behind, just remember this tale and stay clever and kind.
