Once there was an old farmer who lived in a small village. He had three sons who always quarreled with one another. The farmer was very worried. He wanted to see them united and happy together. So, he thought of a clever plan to teach them a lesson about teamwork.
One day, the farmer brought home a big bundle of sticks. He called his sons and asked them to try to break the bundle. They pulled and pulled but could not break the sticks. They were frustrated and exhausted, and the farmer smiled at their struggle. He knew this was just the beginning of his lesson.
After they gave up, the farmer untied the bundle of sticks. He handed each son a single stick and said, "Now, try to break these one by one!" The sons happily took turns breaking each stick. Soon, they broke all the sticks easily, laughing as they did so, but they did not yet understand the lesson.
The farmer looked at them with wise eyes and said, "You see, my sons, union is strength. When the sticks were together in the bundle, you could not break them. But when they were separated, they were weak and broke easily. United you are strong, divided you are weak."
The three brothers listened carefully, their hearts warming up. They understood the farmer's message about strength in unity. From that day on, they promised to help each other and live in peace, just like the strong bundle of sticks that could not be broken.
