Once upon a time, in a bright city, there stood a statue called the Happy Prince. He was tall and shiny, made of gold and blue sapphire. The Happy Prince smiled down at the people, but he saw many sad faces below.
One night, a little swallow flew by. He saw the Happy Prince glimmering under the moonlight. The swallow was tired and cold, looking for a place to rest. The prince said, 'Oh little bird, please help me!'
The Happy Prince told the swallow about the poor people in the city. 'They are hungry and need help. Take off my gold and share it with them!' said the statue. The swallow felt warm in his heart.
The little swallow decided to help. He took off a gold leaf from the prince and flew away. He found a poor lady with a baby. The lady smiled when she received the gold, saying it would feed her child.
The Happy Prince felt joy as the swallow returned. 'Thank you, little bird! There are more people who need help!' said the prince. The swallow agreed to take more gold and help others, too.
Every night, the swallow took gold from the Happy Prince and shared it with the needy. The statue became less shiny but felt happier than ever. 'You are my friend,' said the swallow.
One day, the Happy Prince noticed a blind man sitting alone. 'Oh, dear swallow, take out a sapphire for him!' the prince asked. The swallow did it, bringing light to the man's eyes with the shining stone.
The more the swallow helped, the less beautiful the Happy Prince became. But he didn’t mind. 'I am happy because I help others!' he said, and the swallow chirped in agreement.
Then winter came, and the little swallow grew tired. 'I cannot fly anymore,' he said sadly. 'But you have shared so much love,' said the Happy Prince kindly.
When the swallow finally closed his eyes, the Happy Prince turned into a grey statue. But inside his heart, he remained warm with love. Together they taught that sharing brings happiness to everyone.
