Once upon a time, on a sunny spring day, Mr. Parsons stepped out of his hotel. He was feeling happy and cheerful, ready to enjoy the warm air. Suddenly, he noticed a blind beggar coming down the avenue. The beggar was using his worn cane, tapping it on the ground as he walked. Mr. Parsons, with his elegant gray suit, felt a little pity for the sightless man, wondering how he could help him.
The blind beggar, a thick-necked man with wild hair, called out to Mr. Parsons. "Excuse me, sir! Can you spare a moment?" he said with a hopeful tone. "I have a special item to sell!" Mr. Parsons was surprised. The beggar seemed eager to offer something, even though it was hard to believe he could sell anything. The kind-hearted businessman thought, 'Maybe I should listen to him.'
The beggar explained that he had the best cigarette lighter in town for just one dollar. Mr. Parsons shook his head gently and said, "I'm sorry, but I don’t smoke. I can help you, though." He reached into his pocket and handed the beggar two shiny coins. "Here, take this!" The beggar smiled wide; he felt relieved and grateful for the kindness.
The beggar suddenly grew serious and began to tell a long story about how he lost his sight years ago in a terrible explosion. "I was just an ordinary worker, and I remember it all!" he exclaimed. Mr. Parsons listened carefully as the man described the chaos of the incident, feeling a mixture of pity and understanding. But something in Mr. Parsons' mind was stirring as he heard the tale.
At that moment, Mr. Parsons revealed a shocking truth. “I was there too! You were the one who climbed over me as I struggled to escape!" The beggar froze, his mouth agape. He realized he recognized Mr. Parsons' voice. In that instant, both men faced the reality of their past. Both had survived, yet each carried the burden of loss. However, it was up to them to find a new way to see the world.
