Once upon a time, in a sunny green forest, there lived a fast hare named Harry. Harry was very proud of his speed. He loved to boast about how quick he was. One day, he saw Terry the tortoise moving slowly and decided to challenge him to a race. Terry, who was quiet and wise, agreed to the race, although he didn’t boast or tease.
All the animals gathered to watch the race. The sun was shining bright, and everyone was excited. Harry, the hare, stretched his long legs and said, "This will be a piece of cake!" Terry, the tortoise, just smiled and nodded. The starting line was marked with leaves, and the animals cheered loudly. "Ready, set, go!" they shouted.
As soon as they started, Harry zoomed ahead. He was so fast that he soon left Terry far behind. Harry laughed as he looked back and saw Terry slowly plodding along. "I’m so fast! I can take a nap and still win!" he thought. So, he found a soft patch of grass and curled up for a little snooze.
Meanwhile, Terry kept moving slowly but steadily. He didn’t stop. He thought of all the friends cheering for him and kept going step by step. He knew that slow and steady would help him reach the finish line. As he moved carefully, he enjoyed the flowers and the chirping birds around him.
After a while, Harry woke up from his nap. He stretched and looked around but didn’t see Terry anywhere! "I have plenty of time to finish the race," he said to himself confidently. So, he dashed off to the finish line. He was sure he would win easily!
But as Harry was running, he saw Terry a little way off. Terry was still moving slowly, but he was so close to the finish line! Harry panicked! He ran as fast as he could but it was too late. Terry crossed the finish line just in time. The animals cheered loudly for him!
"I can’t believe it!" yelled Harry. Terry smiled and told him, "Slow but steady wins the race!" The other animals gathered around, nodding their heads in agreement. Harry felt embarrassed but learned an important lesson that day.
Terry showed everyone that being patient and working hard can lead to success. From that day on, Harry practiced being patient. He still loved to run fast, but he also learned to appreciate the little things along the way, just like Terry.
The forest was filled with joy as Terry became the hero of the day. All the animals celebrated together, and Harry apologized to Terry. They became the best of friends, teaching each other important lessons about speed and steadiness.
And so, in the sunny green forest, Harry the hare and Terry the tortoise lived happily, reminding everyone that it’s not just about being fast but also about having patience and perseverance.
