Once upon a time, there was a boy named Narcissus. He often whispered to the wind, 'I miss you, sister!' His twin sister had the sweetest smile. They played together under the sun, but one day she was gone, and Narcissus felt lost without her.
He sat by a sparkling spring one sunny afternoon. As he looked into the clear water, he remembered her laughter, so bright and clear. Suddenly, he saw a face that looked just like hers! He gasped, 'Sister? Is that really you?'.
The face in the water smiled back but didn’t speak. Narcissus leaned closer, expecting to hear her sweet voice. 'Please, say something!' he cried out, but the spring remained silent like a secret.
In those days, there were no shiny mirrors like today. Narcissus thought he had found a water-nymph, a magical spirit. So, every day he returned to the spring, yearning to see the face he missed so much.
Day after day, Narcissus gazed deeply into the spring, hoping for a glimpse of his beloved sister. 'Oh, how I wish I could see you!' he sighed. The beautiful reflection always made him feel warm yet sad.
As time went on, the gods noticed his sorrowful heart. They watched him whisper sweet things to the water, longing for a conversation that would never happen. 'This boy deserves peace,' they whispered to one another.
One morning, as the sun shone brightly, Narcissus leaned over the water one last time. His heart ached, and he said softly, 'I just want to be with you again.' The gods heard his words, and a gentle breeze flowed over the spring.
With a flash of light, Narcissus transformed into a beautiful flower. The first of its kind—the Narcissus flower! It bloomed in vibrant hues, a wonderful sight beside the water.
Now whenever the Narcissus flowers grow near a pond, they bow their heads gracefully. They remember their namesake, forever lost in the reflection of the spring. 'You are beautiful, just like her,' they seem to whisper to anyone who passes by.
And so, the tale of Narcissus lives on as the flowers sway, a reminder of love, loss, and the beauty of memories that shine brightly, even in the water's depths.
